Call of the Dark

The Quiet Dark.

After the sun finally sets and the kids are asleep, I sit in my room with the light out to soak in the silky sounds of silence.  My body breathes. I need this darkness.

Darkness demands silence. She embraces all senses and feelings. She is the liminal space of all potential. And she will not speak clearly until you make space for her. Slow down. Do not cling to distractions. Listen.

Darkness calls you from wild places in nature: the jungle, the ocean, the mountains. Wake up to your life, and do not go back to sleep. Your hands are needed in this great re-weaving.

Darkness teaches us to hear the space between the notes. To close our eyes and see with our hearts. We will continue to stumble, fall down, and chase what we thought we wanted until we acknowledge the value of her lessons.

Do not ignore the still small voice in your gut. Do not avoid the tingle of intuition in your spine. Do not disconnect from the wisdom of your body. She has something powerful to say that you need to hear.

The darkness within your body holds the memory and wisdom of every ancestor who came before you. The dreams you carry in your muscles and bones protect an ancient promise between you and creation that brought you to this earth to walk in human form.

Darkness dances as time in the still face of infinity. She infuses us with life worth living. She brings us meaning, depth and wander. She gives us deadlines, challenges, and obstacles so we can grow into the person we promised our soul to become.

Darkness is wild. She promises us nothing but devotion to her own inherent nature. Resisting her is futile, because she is the part of you that knows she is right. She will surprise you on the day you think you finally have it all figured out, you imagine you have everything together, and you feel comfortable--if not complacent--with your life.

She will throw the golden apple into the room of squabbling princesses and scream at you to wake up. She will take your steady job, blow a flat tire in your car, and destroy relationships that keep you small.

There is no way to avoid the confusion and chaos her calls create. I can only offer you this bit of guidance: let it all fall apart. Invite her in. You’ll feel a bit more sovereign when you finally acknowledge her and stop feigning surprise. Her call is a gift that too often falls on closed ears. When you hear her, know you are loved and proceed with courage to fulfill your destiny.

I have recorded a meditation as a gift for you, to remind you to come home to your body so you can soak in the darkness and silence and wisdom there. You can find the link in my bio. If you try it and like it, please let me know with a note.  Thank you, and take care.
